In these past few weeks I have learned a lot. For the first part of the quarter we started our SMART goals. I chose to eat 3(1/2)cup servings of organic fruit or vegetables. I later decided just to change my goal to fruits and vegetables. Eating organic can be expensive and I needed to keep my spending to a minimum. I have surprisingly done very well with achieving my smart goal. Some weeks I tend to eat more of one than the other.
We also learned about advocacy and what it is. Part of our assignment was to research about our political representatives in the area. I enjoyed this assignment, because I am not real political. The timing of the assignment was perfect too because it was right around election time so I was able to do a little research for that.
Another part to our advocacy project was to choose a bill related to the environment. I chose a bill that dealt with having clean water it is H.R.3202 The Water Protection and Reinvestment Act of 2009. This assignment was a long process, but it is worth it. I enjoy researching it and learning new things about it.
I really enjoy watching the documentaries as well. We watched the "Story of Stuff" although I have saw it before in another class it was still interesting. It is scary to think about how much we are ruining our earth.
Last, but not least we did the photo essay. I really really liked this assignment. I decided to do our compost. In our backyard we have created a small compost. It really helps save on food waste and we have less garbage in our garbage can. It is kind of a hassle in the winter, but it is a good thing for our earth.
Overall, it has been a fun learning experience and I am kind of sad it is coming to an end. I have changed many of my ways because of this class and I am working on being more environmentally friendly.
I was actually regretting not doing a goal on eating more fruits and veggies. I thought it was such a good goal. The political representative thing was a learning experience to me too! I was a struggle to figure everything out but Im glad we did it. Your bill that you chose was really unique to what everyone else picked. I like hearing about it and it seemed really interesting. Who thought having clean water would be such a process?! I also liked the documentary we watched.
ReplyDeleteI too have become more eco friendly since this class started. I also thought our advocacy projects were fun and interesting. I learned a lot of valuable information from that. I really enjoyed the Story of Stuff because it was presented in a new and fun way.
